The Implications Amazon's Acquisition of Whole Foods

I dissect multiple angles of Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods.

Amazon is now an offline grocer

Grocery is the largest consumer category in the US and it enjoys a high purchase frequency. Amazon has always had an eye on grocery for these reasons. It can’t be the “Everything Store” without being dominant here.

It started its foray in grocery by launching its home delivery service, AmazonFresh, in 2007. Over the years, it’s expanded its grocery programs to include Subscribe & Save, Pantry and Prime Now for grocery delivery. In 2017, it started experimenting with physical grocery retail with its Amazon Go and AmazonFresh Pick Up stores.

This acquisition means that Amazon now owns roughly 460 stores to accelerate its growth in the grocery category.

What does this mean for delivery at Whole Foods?

New delivery models could be coming to Whole Foods. Instacart is the white label delivery partner for Whole Foods and Whole Foods is an investor in Instacart. In today’s announcement of the acquisition, there was no mention of what would happen to the Whole Foods and Instacart relationship. Whole Foods also has small click and collect and direct ship programs.

It is likely that Amazon will replace Instacart with one of its own programs. While Prime Now replicates the Instacart experience with one to two hour delivery with products picked from grocery stores, I think that AmazonFresh will simply add a hyperlocal delivery element to remain as Amazon’s main grocery brand.

I also speculate that Amazon could put AmazonFresh Pick Up Stores in the parking lots of Whole Foods where possible or locate them as standalone options near the stores, so the stores can serve as fulfillment centers for the Pick-Up stores. The other option is to expand Whole Foods’ existing click and collect program.

The grocery price war is going to heat up.

Whole Foods has been struggling for years to be price competitive as grocery stores embraced its product assortment and shoppers responded by shifting to its competitors. While it’s made significant investments in lowering prices and building out its private label brand, the company still remains under pressure. It also launched a less expensive version of the Whole Foods Market banner, called 365 by Whole Foods.

Amazon will help with this. It is notorious for using its scale and efficiencies to pass its cost savings onto consumers. Being part of Amazon gives Whole Foods breathing room to look long term when it comes to pricing.

Possible synergies in assortment

In early 2017, Jet.com launched Walmart private label brands on its website. Will Amazon follow suit? Food private label has been a weakness for Amazon, but Whole Foods has a strong private label in foods with 365.

It’s also possible that Amazon will use Whole Food’s partnerships with suppliers to get more of them on the Amazon platform. Amazon and Whole Foods will be tough negotiators, but the lure of the 300 million customer accounts on Amazon, in addition to all of its other CPG-related programs, will be tough to turn down.

Will Amazon use its relationships with suppliers and it's marketplace sellers to bring its own suppliers to Whole Foods’ shelves? Another intriguing proposition for suppliers.

Mind; The Only True Obstacle To Your Success – Greatness, Financial Freedom, Not Money

What is Poverty? Can It Really Be Measured By Income - or The Lack of t?

As they say, poverty does not start from the pocket; it begins from the mind.

That’s to say, for one to be rich (physically, to what people refer to as richness) one must firstly fill one’s mind with virtues, thoughts, in line with the kind of lushness one desires.

Ideas are conceived in the mind
Fact; at every age, everyone – big or small, old or young, male or female, has the capacity to draw wealth from its source. It’s been proven that the source of every wealth is like sealed well full of fortunes, unlocked destinies and yet to discover greatness.

Therefore, your age does not limit youfuture but your mind, hence the late Napoleon Hill said:

“Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past.”

Believe it, your mind is the bedrock of your wealth. Use it well, imagine big, think fabulous, and aspire profusely.

If your mindset is not right, then you will not fully succeed at what you want to achieve.

If you don’t believe that you will be successful, then your mind will find a way to prevent that success from ever happening.

Our mind is a machine complex than a computer which works 24/7 and reacting on whatever we see and whatever we want to believe.

The size of our dreams matters
It’s not only about imagining and thinking; it’s about believing as well. And, this is where so many people get it wrong. If you don’t believe, you can achieve something your negative thoughts will make sure you don’t achieve. In fact, if you’re like the average person, chances are you won’t even try something new if you think you won’t be successful.
Often time, new self-help gurus tell people not to worry about the size of the thing they want (to achieve) since size does not matter to the Universe. Hell No! This is where they get it wrong. Size may not matter to the Universe but it matters to me and you, in our daily living, especially when our aspirations are at stake! We got to think big and dream large. In this context, the size of our dreams counts, of eminent significant and must be immense enough to house all our aspirations.

For example, one can spend the whole year trying to attract a new Ferrari but unless he believes that it’s possible, he is not going to succeed buying it. Even, he may say positive affirmations to the effect that he’s already own the car to the extent of cutting out pictures of the car and stick them on the walls of his room. He may visualize how he’s driving the car on the way to visit his girlfriend. He may also experience feelings of joy and happiness when thinking about the car, telling himself that the car is already his and waiting for the Universe to deliver it. But, the right question here is 'does he really believe it'?
know the tune of your conscious and unconscious mind

You see, it’s often easy to believe something with our conscious mind. We always want to believe it. But, unless we believe it with our unconscious mind as well, we do not really believe it. The problem is that in most cases we have no idea when our conscious mind and unconscious mind is not in tune with each other. The best way of knowing that they are not in tune is when we don’t get what we want.

Your conscious mind may want to think that you already own a Ferrari and that you are just waiting for the Universe to manifest the car, while your unconscious mind believes that you will never own a Ferrari and that you should rather focus on getting a good used Toyota Celica. So, size matters to your unconscious mind! Deducting from this few points, one could simplify that our unconscious mind plays a bigger role in achieving our dreams than our conscious mind, so we must cautiously guide  and guard our mind with all diligence.

Remember, that the mind – your mind, my mind, can go as far as you can stretch it. Meaning that whatsoever your mind can imagine (without doubt) is achievable.

Conceived Ideas? Don't Doubt It
So, stop settling for average, that’s not sign of excellence oriented mind. Yes, don’t you dare accept excuse for an answer; for it’s the sole sign of mediocrity, a visible indication of mental weakness and it’s no less than poverty of the mind, emptiness.

Build your ‘I can do mentality’ todayIt’s the true spirit required in every field of life. No manager or employer in his/her right mental state would dare employ one or want to have such a person of poor mind in his organisation.

Meditatively, how much mind exercise do you do every day?
Have you ever heard that "the human mind is poor by doubt but rich by faith"?

Certainly, when you stretch your mind, it gets you to things and places no one else has ever imagined. That’s when it gives you the results that you desire.

Do you think that the principle of “seed time and the harvest time” – Genesis 18:22, will change because of the poor state of your mind? Better wake up. For where you are today is a product of your mind and where you will be tomorrow is still the product of your mind.

Keeping the product of your mind constant, fast-track; time flies, years go by, age changes, the result you will get – your position then, would be the same with today.

Only renewed mindset can give you a new result
Reason, the result you get in life – your life gives to you, is proportional to the seed(s) you’ve sown in your mind. No man reaps what he did not sow. It’s unnatural, impossible to harvest from the field that you didn’t not cultivate in (except by miracle which I believe) lest you are dubious; a thief.

Thus, if you see yourself in the sky tomorrow, you are right, that is where you will be. If you still see yourself stuck around many excuses, you are still right as well and that is where you will be. You have to aim fatly, target higher and work diligently to attaining it.

Always remember that there is no known law that restricts one from thinking big.  What is required of us is simply opening our minds, our inner-eyes to seeing lots of possibilities. The potential of greatness is in me and in you, hence the adage "there is drop of greatness in every man".

Does your mind have functionality limit? Does it obey the scientific law of elasticity? Or is there any point in your life when you can’t stretch it further to reasoning, imagining, dreaming, and visualizing the big pictures of life?

Explicitly, the main thing that stands in your way of getting what your conscious mind wants is your limiting beliefs. And, "unless you address your limiting beliefs, your unconscious mind will veto what your conscious mind would like to believe". Your unconscious mind needs a complete scrutiny whenever you find yourself in this kind of scenario. Subject it to thorough check; inspect it prudently and examine it painstakingly at all times until it does no longer cogitate to that pessimism.

Positive Mindset Redefines your life
One good way of getting in touch with your limiting beliefs is to take a blank piece of paper and draw a line down the centre of the page. On the left side of the page write down as many reasons as you can think of why that Ferrari you want is already yours, and on the right side of the page write down as many reasons as possible why you won’t be driving that Ferrari any time soon. The reasons on the right side of the page are your limiting beliefs and unless you are able to address them, you are going to find it very hard to manifest a new Ferrari.

Please note that limiting beliefs are, more often than not, not valid reasons why you can’t get what you want. Funny, we all have our own set of limiting beliefs and in most cases these limiting believes were transferred to us by our parents, our teachers and we have been carrying them about like cross with us for years without even knowing it.

Here is one of my own limiting beliefs that I got as a child from my father: “It is not for us.” He often use to say this when I remarked about the things other people have than we don’t have. Is it an absolute truth? No! But, only when I realized that I can also have a nice car and a huge house, and that I don’t have to settle for less because of who I am did I manage to dissolve this limiting belief that I carried with me from my early childhood.

As Napoleon Hill rightly put, "what your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve". Take note of your limiting beliefs and see them for what they are. Once you can overcome your limiting beliefs, your conscious mind and your unconscious mind can be in tune and you can achieve that which you can conceive and believe.

Avoid Copyright Infringement; Discover How To Use Contents From Other Blogs/Websites Without Violating Copyright Law.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. This post is not intended as legal advise. If you have real concerns that you MIGHT be violating someone’s copyright, do not use it. Or ask permission first.

As a Blogger, Article Writer, Discover How To Avoid Infringing on the copyright Owners’ Intellectual Property

book with copyright symbol on it
Sharing quotes, facts, and images from other blogs is something many content creators do instinctively, without thinking about whether they are doing anything wrong. The open social web encourages this free sharing.
The importance of copyright online is ever increasing. And if you are blogging as a business, it is even more important. Getting caught up in copyright infringement suits is not going to do wonders for your bottom line.
If you find yourself wanting to pull a quotation from another website or blog, use one of their photos, or re-publish an entire blog post, here are a few rules of the road to guide you down the path of content curation copyright.

FAIR USE ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE CONTENT OF OTHERS IF…

If you copy another person’s original work, in writing or photography, you must pass the Fair Use test. Fair Use allows you to use another person’s work for the purpose of education, commentary or criticism. In a copyright lawsuit, to determine if the copied work was fair use, 4 items must be considered:
  1. Purpose and character of the use (commercial vs. nonprofit/educational)Was your writing or image an original work or a full copy?
Is your website for profit as a business or personal?

  2. Nature of the copyrighted work
Is the original work a news story based on fact or is it theory, opinion, original thought?
Could the quoted work have been recreated with research on your own?
The closer the original work is to facts the more likely that fair use applies. Opinion however makes the work more original and more likely that you are in the wrong.

  3. Amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to entire original work
Did you copy ALL of the work?
Did you copy MOST of the work?
The more you use, the more likely you are in the wrong. What is the right length? Many will say a couple paragraphs is fine. The AP specifically asks bloggers to pay for quotations more than 4 words. That is the extreme. The best rule of thumb here, as with most of copyright, is if you are unsure, just ask the copyright holder for permission.
  4. Effect on the potential market/value of the copyrighted work
Are you producing a competing product by copying an original work?
Is there still a good reason for someone to go look at the original work?
Are you using an image that you would normally have to pay for?
If you are costing someone else money that they would normally receive, you are typically in the wrong.
These 4 points should not be considered independently, but holistically. The is no exact equation of what constitutes fair use but these are guides that, when considered together, will guide your decision.

THE COMMON SENSE APPROACH TO COPYRIGHT

  • Always Ask First — Most bloggers, photographers, and content creators online are pretty accessible these days. And if one isn’t, there are likely 10 others with similar media that are. Asking for permission can also potentially help you. If the author of a quote or the photographer of an image knows you are using something, they may point people toward your blog post.
  • Quoting News and People — If you are pulling a one or two sentence quote for context in a blog post where you are giving opinion, you are usually in the clear, especially if you are linking to the original text for credit. However, to repeat, if unsure, always ask first.
  • Creative Commons — Many content creators, especially photographers and image websites, are starting to use creative commons. Creative Commons is a service that helps define and provide licenses for content creators to define how and if their original work can be shared. Look for creative commons licenses on Flickr, in Google Image Search, and in the footer of more and more blogs (examples here).
Mashable does not have Creative Commons listed but includes a simple directive their footer “Reproduction without explicit permission is prohibited. All Rights Reserved.”
  • Always Link — If you feel you are in the clear or you have direct permission, it is always the default to give credit and link back to the original author/content owner. This gives them value and many times alerts them to the use. It is also just good manners.
  • Are You Helping Them? — Ask this question before contacting a site about republishing their work. If you want to republish a blog post, one important question to ask is if you would be helping that blogger gain exposure more than they would be helping you with free content. Republishing TechCrunch on your personal blog for interest would do very little to nothing for TechCrunch. But if TechCrunch wanted to republish something from your personal blog, it would be a big bonus of traffic and attention to you. Consider the value equation.
  • Curation Has It’s Limits — A weekly wrap up blog post where you summarize and link to other strong articles around the web is great. Even a wrap up of quotes or excerpts from some of your favorite blogs can be pretty acceptable as long as you provide links. Once your excerpts get so long that your reader does not need to click through to the original work, you have crossed a line.
  • Photos Are Dicey — You most likely are not using a small part of someone’s image or photo like you do with text excerpts. If copying photos it usually means you are using the entire original work. Because of this you are more than likely violating copyright when taking an image from the web and using it on your blog without permission.
There are also several services and bureaus built for paying to use photos, so proving that you are costing someone else money becomes pretty easy.
Here are the best options you have for using photos that will not get you into copyright trouble:
  • Use the creative commons search functions on Google Image Search and Flickr search
  • Use your own original images
  • Buy images through a service like Shutterstock.com or iStock.com
  • Ask for direct permission from the photographer

Discover the Future with 605 HP Audi S8 Plus Dials the Power

Admit it. There are times when you wish you could get away from it all by moving to your own private island. Well, some cruise passengers actually can at least for a day. Each of the following cruise lines below offer passengers a day of fun in the sun on their very own private island. For many cruisers, this stop is the highlight of the trip. After all, what could be better than sitting on a white-sand beach, drinking a pia colada and soaking in the rays without crowds?

“IT’S A WONDERFUL DESTINATION, WE WILL COME BACK NEXT YEAR FOR SURE!”

All of these islands have pristine shores, swaying palm trees, aquamarine waters and lots of ocean-side adventure. There usually are fees for shore excursions and equipment rental. Every destination offers something a little different for cruise passengers.

View of buildings on the coast of tropical island San Andres y Providencia
Even at first glance, CocoCay looks like the quintessential Caribbean hideaway. There are wide stretches of beach in quiet coves, island huts in bright Caribbean pinks and blues, and a colorful straw market offering Bahamian crafts and goods.
Many of the island buildings look brand new and they are. In 2002, the company invested more than US$ 21 million to turn this 140-acre (0.5 km) slip of land into a destination their passengers would never forget. Nature trails wind through the isle, which is home to wild chickens, peacocks and occasional iguanas. Those seeking solitude will enjoy the hammocks that are hung under coconut trees in quiet locations.

Sea lovers have plenty of activities to choose from. Hop on a jet ski (US $ 95 for 50 minutes) and speed across waters so clear that you can see orange starfish 20 feet below, or don a snorkel mask and explore life under the sea up close.
For a great view of the island, try your hand at parasailing (US $ 79 per hour). You’ll soar 200-400 feet in the air and maybe even take a cooling dip in the water before returning to the boat. Children will enjoy Caylana’s Castle Cove and SeaTrek Aqua Park (US$ 15 adults, $10 children). Its floating sand castle and aquatic trampolines are just the things for those who are young at heart.
A staff of 45 people lives on CocoCay, and it’s obvious they take pride in keeping the island’s natural beauty in top condition. Their pampering service makes the island experience so pleasurable that you won’t want to leave when dusk falls all too soon.

How to Start a Business with (Almost) No Money

No Money to Start a Business? No Problem. Try These 5 Options.
You might be limited to a strict budget when you want to start a business, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have any options. It is possible to start a business with very little money, if you have the right combination of skills, work ethic and marketing know-how.
According to Chris Guillebeau, author of The $100 Startup, “To succeed in a business project, especially one you’re excited about, it helps to think carefully about all the skills you have that could be helpful to others and particularly about the combination of those skills.”

Follow these simple guidelines to start a business when you have little to no money. Learn how to make money today.
1. Make something.
Yes, making something does take an initial cost in supplies, but oftentimes, these products can be sold for many times over their actual cost. What you decide to make is up to you, but there are several places you can sell your handmade options online:
  • Abe’s Market deals in natural and organic goods, such as lotions, candles, granola, and more.
  • Etsy is one of the largest online markets for almost anything homemade, from jewelry to wooden toys for kids.
  • Bonanza is another growing handmade marketplace, similar to Etsy. According to PC World, it boasts over 10 million visits per month.
  • eBay is one of the biggest online ecommerce marketplaces in the world, and its streamlined store options, easy checkout through Paypal, and customizable listing options make it a great choice for selling items.
Many business owners sell their products on multiple platforms to get the most exposure possible. It is important, however, to make sure your inventory stays updated on all sites you have a storefront on. If you want to learn about more resources for selling homemade items, check out this Lifehacker post.
2. Resell something.
If you don’t want to make anything (or you don’t consider yourself a creative person), many business owners have grown large businesses just be reselling products that have already been made. This can be done through a variety of ways or channels:
  • Drop shipping: Set up an online store and partner with drop-shipping companies that will do all the order fulfillment for you. Online ecommerce platform Shopify has a great drop shipping guide, and Tim Ferriss does a good job of explaining drop shipping in his well-known book, The Four Hour Work Week.
  • Thrift stores and garage sales: If you know where to look, you can find items at thrift stores, antique shops, flea markets and garage sales and resell them online or in your local community for more than you purchased them for. One extremely successful example of this is Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal. Amoruso started buying and reselling vintage and unique fashion pieces on eBay, and her company has grown to a net income of $24 million in 2011 with over 200 employees. Her book, #GIRLBOSS, is in inspiring look into how she got started.
3. Sell your services.
One way to start a business with little to no startup capital is to sell your services, instead of a physical product. There’s a huge variety of services you can offer, depending on your background and interests.
Some will require advanced degrees, such as accounting, while others require little more than a working knowledge of how it’s done (such as babysitting, lawn mowing or personal assistance).
Because you are selling your services, you will need a branding plan to make sure your name and company gets in front of the people who may need the service. Some places that are free for promoting your services include Fiverr, Craigslist, Elance, Taskrabbit and Skillshare.
It’s also useful to have a website to show examples of your work, list your experience, and blog about your industry to draw visitors. If you want to learn more about branding and online marketing, check out Buffer’s social-media blog, Hubspot’s blog, Content Marketing Institute and CopyPress.

4. Barter to get what you need.
Unfortunately, it’s extremely hard to start a business without any type of funds at all. Even creating a freelance-writing business utilizing Elance and a free Wordpress or Wix website will still require a computer to work on as well as Internet. However, there are ways to get supplies you need for starting your business without money.
For instance, if you find yourself in need of a used laptop, try to barter for it. Build a new website for a used electronics supplier, or offer babysitting services to your neighbor for their old Macbook.
5. Utilize low-cost services.
As mentioned previously, you can use sites such as Fiverr or Elance to advertise your products and services on, but you can also use these platforms to build up your own company. For instance, many designers offer $5 to $25 logo designs (that come with free revisions). Sort by reviews and look at past examples to find a designer or service provider that matches your style.
This is a great way to get branding materials, printed items (Vistaprint and Zazzle are great places to buy personalized items), or other needed items without much cost. And for additional savings, be sure to look for coupon codes on sites such as RetailMeNot before checking out at any online retailer!
Starting a business requires ingenuity and a passion for what you are doing. Once you find yourself doing something you enjoy, you will be more likely to find ways to make it all come together.
